The number of persons with diabetes is expected to more than triple by 2050, with Oklahoma ranking the fifth highest in diabetes mortality rate in the nation. To encourage ongoing training and education of healthcare workers to meet the needs of patients, OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, is hosting the region’s largest diabetes care summit on August 26, 2022. 

In order to increase opportunities in the healthcare field for underrepresented minority groups, OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center recently hosted the Diversity in Cancer Research (DiCR) summer internship. 

Stefanie Beavers, DNP, R.N., NEA-BC, has been named chief nursing officer for Oklahoma Children's Hospital OU Health.

A clinical study conducted at OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center on the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center campus has found that people with Type 2 diabetes diagnosed during youth — as young as 10 years old — have a high risk of developing complications at early ages and have a greater chance of multiple complications within 15 years after diagnosis.
