The number of persons with diabetes is expected to more than triple by 2050, with Oklahoma ranking the fifth highest in diabetes mortality rate in the nation. A clinical study conducted at OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center on the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center campus has found that people with Type 2 diabetes diagnosed during youth — as young as 10 years old — have a high risk of developing complications at early ages and have a greater chance of multiple complications within 15 years after diagnosis.
