Three researchers at Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at OU Medicine have been awarded a $2.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to investigate the role of the microbiome – the millions of bacteria in a person’s gut – and how the microbes passed from mother to child contribute to the onset of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Lurdes Queimado, M.D., Ph.D., professor with the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology, has been awarded a $2.25 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to continue her work on electronic cigarettes and their role in increasing the risk for oral cancers.
